BEHIND THE CALCULATION

Understand your result.

Translate portfolio weights into amounts and see how your capital is distributed.

How the calculation works

Each allocation amount equals portfolio value × weight / 100. Weights describe one portfolio; aim for 100%. Any shortfall remains unallocated rather than being silently normalized. The largest share describes a bucket, not the underlying investment risk. Preset mixes are educational examples.

A WORKED EXAMPLE

For a portfolio of 10,000, a 60% equity, 30% bond and 10% cash mix allocates 6,000, 3,000 and 1,000. The largest allocation is 60%. This alone does not measure how risky the investments are.

Assumptions & limitations

  • The tool calculates allocation amounts, not future returns or market data.
  • Preset allocations are illustrations and are not a suitability assessment.
  • The calculation excludes correlations, volatility, fees, taxes and rebalancing costs.
  • Diversification can reduce concentration but cannot prevent every loss.
